Amidst a nationwide uproar triggered by ,RG Kar Rape Case ,the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate medical student in Kolkata, Uttarakhand police have made a significant breakthrough in a similar, chilling case.

On Wednesday, law enforcement officials apprehended a suspect in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse, who mysteriously vanished on July 30th from her residence in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district. The gruesome incident, echoing the brutality of the Kolkata case, has sent shock waves through the state and reignited concerns about women’s safety across the country.

Deceased’s Profile and Body Recovery

The victim Taslim Jahan , a dedicated nurse, was a long-time resident of Islamnagar, a neighborhood within Gadarpur. She held a position at a private hospital in Nainital, where she diligently served patients. Although originally from Gadarpur, she had chosen to reside in Bilaspur Colony with her only child, an 11-year-old daughter, to provide a more suitable living environment for her family.

On July 31st, a distressed sister lodged a missing person complaint at the Rudrapur police station regarding the disappearance of her sibling. Following the filing of the report, local law enforcement initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

More than a week after the initial complaint, a grim discovery was made. The victim’s body was found abandoned within a vacant plot situated in the Dibdiba region of Uttar Pradesh. Given the circumstances, authorities deemed it imperative to conduct a thorough post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death and gather crucial forensic evidence.

How Police Tracked Down the Accused

Law enforcement authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the gruesome murder of Taslim Jahan, whose body was discovered in a desolate area near the colony. Initial inquiries have focused on CCTV footage from the vicinity where the victim was last seen.

SSP Dr. Manjunath TC revealed that a breakthrough in the case occurred when investigators traced Tasleem’s movements to Indra Chowk in Rudrapur, where she was observed boarding a tempo. Subsequent efforts led the Uttar Pradesh Police to recover her lifeless body concealed within a thicket. The remains were subsequently transported for a forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. A dedicated police team has been constituted to unravel the complexities of this distressing case.

The accused, Dharmendra, a resident of Jodhpur, was apprehended by the police. During interrogation, he confessed to the heinous crime, claiming to have accosted Tasleem with the intent to rob her as she entered Basundhara Apartment on Kashipur Road. The assailant then forcibly dragged the victim to a secluded bush, where he perpetrated a brutal sexual assault before strangling her to death. To evade justice, Dharmendra made off with the victim’s cash and jewelry.
