Tripura Floods: 19 Dead, 2 Missing, 65,400 Homeless

Due to heavy rainfall in the region, the water levels of rivers in six districts—Dhalai, Khowai, South Tripura, West Tripura, North Tripura, and Unakoti—have risen significantly, surpassing the danger mark. This has led to concerns about potential flooding in these areas.

The devastating Tripura Floods continued to wreak havoc, claiming seven more casualties in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to a tragic 19. The relentless heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding, displacing an alarming 65,000 people from their homes. Two individuals remain unaccounted for, adding to the growing anxiety and despair. The state government’s Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department is working tirelessly to provide aid and assistance to the affected population.

Landslides have affected 2,032 areas, with clearance efforts completed in 1,789 of these locations. Restoration work is ongoing in the remaining areas. The water levels of rivers in six districts—Dhalai, Khowai, South Tripura, West Tripura, North Tripura, and Unakoti—have risen above the danger mark.

The state of Tripura experienced heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to severe flooding in several districts. Notably, South Tripura’s Bogafa received a staggering 493.6 millimeters of rainfall, followed by Sepahijala’s Sonamura with 293.4 mm, West Tripura’s Agartala with 233 mm, and Gomati’s Udaipur with 155 mm. This intense rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding across the state, with Gomati, South Tripura, Unakoti, and West Tripura districts being particularly hard hit. The Relief, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Department issued a statement on Thursday evening, highlighting the critical situation and the impact of the floods on the state.
