A suspect is in custody following an active shooter incident at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there have been casualties, but the exact number and their conditions remain unknown at this time.
A local hospital is treating individuals injured in a shooting incident at a Georgia high school. Georgia State Patrol confirmed that they had responded to an active shooter situation at the school. Emergency responders, including multiple ambulances and a significant police presence, were on the scene. At least one patient was transported by helicopter to the hospital. Witnesses reported seeing students gathered on a football field near the school, appearing to pray.

The school, part of the Barrow County School System, has been cleared, and students are being dismissed. Parents have been notified, and transportation will be provided for those who need it. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has directed all state resources to assist at the scene and has called on Georgians to pray for the safety of students across the state.
Winder, located roughly an hour from Atlanta, had a population of approximately 18,338 according to the 2020 census. The Barrow County School System, the 24th largest in the state, serves around 15,340 students, with 1,932 of them attending Apalachee High School.
