Dr. Moumita Debnath Raped & Murder: Kalyan Demands Strict Action Against Culprits

A diverse group of Kalyan residents, including concerned citizens, medical professionals, and senior citizens, staged a protest today at Sai Chowk in Kalyan (West). The demonstrators united in their demand for swift and stringent justice in the harrowing case of the rape and brutal murder of Dr. Moumita Debnath, which occurred in Kolkata.

The recent, horrific incident of rape and murder at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata has ignited widespread outrage and condemnation across the nation. Citizens from all corners of the country are united in their demand for swift justice, calling for the immediate arrest of all those involved in this heinous crime. The public sentiment is unequivocal: the perpetrators of such brutality deserve the most severe punishment, the death penalty.

People are also protesting by taking to the streets across the country regarding this heinous crime.

On Friday, 16-08-24, a somber atmosphere prevailed in Kalyan city, Thane district, as residents took to the streets to express their outrage and grief over the brutal murder of Dr. Moumita Debnath. A candlelight vigil was organized by the Kalyankari Kalyankar Sanstha to pay homage to the deceased and demand swift justice for her.

Dr. Prashant Patil, a prominent figure among the protesters, delivered a fervent speech calling for the harshest possible punishment for the accused involved in the heinous crime. He demanded the death penalty for not only the perpetrators but also for those who aided or shielded them, irrespective of their profession, including medical practitioners. Patil emphasized the need for exemplary punishment to deter such horrific acts in the future and to prevent any potential accomplices from offering refuge to criminals.

Patil called for a comprehensive crackdown on pornographic content, urging the central government to impose a ban on such material across pornography websites and Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms within the country. Expressing deep concern over the detrimental impact of this content on the nation’s youth, Patil highlighted the escalating frequency of related incidents as a direct consequence.

Simultaneously, Surekha Ieetkar, the President of IMA Kalyan, attended the condolence meeting, lending her support to the cause.
