A horrifying incident of Thane School Sex Assault against two four-year-old girls at an English medium school has ignited widespread fury and led to violent protests in the area.

A 23-year-old male cleaning staff member is accused of assaulting the children inside the school’s girls’ toilet on August 16. Following a police complaint, the man was arrested.

Enraged parents and residents took to the streets, blocking the Mumbai rail route at Badalpur station, causing severe disruptions to train services. The protests turned violent as demonstrators pelted stones at police.

Investigations have revealed serious security lapses within the school. While the school administration has taken steps to suspend the principal and dismiss the class teacher and nanny, public anger continues to simmer. Parents are demanding a more stringent response, including a formal apology and concrete assurances for their children’s safety.

The incident has underscored the urgent need for enhanced child protection measures in educational institutions.

A police investigation into the sexual assault cases at the school has uncovered severe lapses in its security protocols. Crucially, there were no female attendants stationed in the girls’ toilets, a fundamental safety breach. Furthermore, the probe revealed that a significant number of the school’s CCTV cameras were non-operational.

In response, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve deeper into the sexual assault cases. Additionally, he has instructed the Thane Police Commissioner to prepare a proposal for fast-tracking the case through a special court.

Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra, Vijay Wadettiwar has alleged a breakdown in the law and order situation. “This incident is going to bring shame to Maharashtra. Everyone is demanding that the case be tried on fast track and the accused be hanged within three months,” the Congress leader said.

Former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanded punishment for the culprits as soon as possible. “Ten years ago, Nirbhaya (case) happened in Delhi and the guilty were punished, but after how long? Those delaying justice should also be held guilty. There should be no politicisation,” he added.
